AQUATICS MANAGER

Green Mountain Community Fitness is looking for a new team member to lead its aquatics operations. This is a full-time, long-term position with room for expansion within a growing organization. The right candidate will oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of GMCF’s aquatic facility in Berlin, VT. This includes being responsible for the hiring, training, testing, and certification of staff for the facility while ensuring that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained. Applicants must carry at least one of the following: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification, American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and/or American Red Cross Lifeguarding, and be willing to pursue additional training to fulfill the job responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Oversees and coordinates the recruitment, training, scheduling, certification, and performance of employees of the facility; supervises the day-to-day activities of staff and custodial employees.
2. Oversees the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance.
3. Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.
4. Develops, implements, and oversees a variety of aquatics programs.
5. Participates in and teaches aquatic and safety certification training sessions, as necessary.
6. Maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

1. At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification and American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

2. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
3. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
5. Records maintenance skills.
6. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
7. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
8. Knowledge of optimal swimming pool water chemistry, temperature, and cleanliness standards.
9. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of public swimming pools and public baths.
10. Ability to recruit, train, and certify student lifeguards and others.
Conditions of Employment
11. Must maintain certification status.
12. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

LIFEGUARD

The Lifeguard is responsible for surveying the pool and conducting rescues to help weak or injured swimmers get to safety. Their duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce swimming rules keeping track of each swimmer in the water and administering first aid to injured swimmers. The Lifeguard will maintain the cleanliness of the pool and surrounding area, and maintain proper chemical balance through water testing and automated chemical systems.
