Pool Renovations Update!

Work in our Aquatics area has been proceeding without a break! We have made some exciting progress and have some updates to share with you.

One of the areas that is changing the most is our single occupancy bathroom located just off the pool deck hallway. We completely removed the existing bathroom and in the process discovered that all of the walls in the entire area had to be rebuilt, as they had rotted out significantly. This was a great opportunity for us to remake that space just the way we want it, so it’s going to be bigger, more accessible and better in almost every way than the previous bathroom! To date we have installed new drain lines, a new concrete floor, rebuilt new walls and placed a wheelchair-accessible shower stall!

Another area of focus has been the hot tub, which is getting a complete makeover. When finished, only the basic structure of the hot tub will still exist; every surface of the tub itself, the surrounding walls and the ceiling will be completely different! What’s more, we uncovered even more chances to make things better when we discovered that many of these walls were also deteriorating. As a result, we have designed a new surround configuration featuring a half-wall that will make the area feel much more open!

Frequent users of the pool will know that the old deck drains had long since deteriorated and become almost entirely ineffective, particularly around the perimeter. An important part of the new project is to install brand new deck drains with a modern design, which will much more efficiently drain water from the deck in all areas. The new drain will circumvent the entire pool and is much wider and deeper than the old drains! Installing it required a lot of work, including first cutting a trench into the deck itself, removing all the waste concrete, laying in the custom-built drain sections and then mortaring them in place. Finally, the entire system had to be leveled and skimmed around the edges to ensure that all of the slopes were correct and smooth before the deck can be installed.

Alongside all of this work, we have also begun refurbishing the walls of the pool room, utilizing painted concrete board panels. Draining the pool created an ideal space in which to lay out the panels for pre-drilling, painting and sizing. It’s a fairly slow process but the beautiful results are already beginning to speak for themselves!

Speaking of the pool itself, in the photos above you will notice that a lot has been done to strip the pool of its old liner, uncovering the original fiberglass pool surface underneath (which probably hasn’t seen the light of day in 30 years). All of this is in preparation for the arrival of the crew from RenoSys, who are now on site and have begun installing our brand new deck and liner! This is also painstaking work, but the glimpses we already have of the new materials are giving us goosebumps of anticipation. It’s going to be well worth waiting for!

Thanks for following along and sticking with us as we execute this sorely needed overhaul. We can’t wait to share it with you in person!
