Happy May!
As we welcome the warm and sunny days ahead, we want to take a moment to celebrate some fantastic moments from our community and share what’s coming up!
First off, let’s give a big cheer for our recent event held at Hubbard Park during Montpelier Mudfest weekend, The Mucker!! In our inaugural adventure race, we had an amazing turnout with ~75 participants, including kids, and we couldn’t have done it without our incredible team of volunteers and staff! This event also marked the first outing for our newly created training team, GMCF ENDURANCE – a group of athletes with like-minded passions for endurance sports (more details on them below). Thank you ALL for bringing such great energy and enthusiasm – we cannot wait until next year!! Are you intrigued, but missed the event? Check out more!
Another wonderful success to celebrate happened right on our very own pickleball courts last month. Green Mountain Community Fitness was honored to be able to present $5,280 to the Capstone ‘Fuel Your Neighbors’ program, helping families in need heat their homes in Central Vermont. Our First Annual Pickleball Meltdown tournament hosted 50 pickleball players in three skill levels to compete over a day and a half to benefit the charity. A big thank you to our local sponsors, including The Meltdown Cafe in Barre and Dick’s Sporting Goods in Williston. We’d also like to express our gratitude to GMCF member, Fred Grubb, for putting his trust in us to support his mission and also to another anonymous GMCF member for matching our fundraising efforts.
We also want to extend a huge THANK YOU for participating in our Member Survey! We received an impressive number of submissions, and it is invaluable for us to hear your thoughts on how we can support your fitness goals and maintain or improve your overall experiences. We look forward to sharing our findings with the community in the coming weeks.
Looking further ahead into June, we will be welcoming back the Mountaineers, our local collegiate summer baseball team! Soon they will be training right here with us all summer long. We will keep you posted on how to snag free tickets to cheer them on at some of their home games! Mountaineer fans, be sure to save the date for Friday July, 11th, when GMCF will sponsor their home game!
Now, with the nicer weather upon us, we’re all excited about spending more time outdoors! Our class schedule will be shifting into summer mode soon, so please keep an eye out for those changes. Some of our FIT classes have the ability to utilize our fit park space, so we hope to be taking some of our workouts outside, too!
We hope you enjoy browsing through what’s on the horizon!
Everyday Stronger,
Cady

MURPH Challenge – Monday, May 26 at 9:00am
|
While GMCF IS CLOSED FOR THE DAY please join us from 9-10:30 AM for the annual MURPH Workout (free) and bbq potluck to follow!
This workout was created to honor Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who died while serving our country; and is an active way gyms all over the country honor those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
MURPH Workout (for time):
1mi run * 100 pull ups * 200 push ups * 300 squats * 1mi run
You can bring and wear a weighted vest, do a half MURPH, or modify exercises (jumping/banded pull-ups, assisted push ups) to make this a solid challenge for yourself.

Essential Bike Fitting Workshop
|
Wednesday May 28 at 6:00pm
|
You should be comfortable on your bike! Join Greg of The Bike Fitter LLC for an hour of informative demonstration on bike fitting in the GMCF Wind Studio!
There are certain measurements that every rider should know, especially for those who will travel with their bike or are looking to translate their fit numbers to stationary equipment.
Participants will leave the session with an understanding of why these fit measurements are important and will develop skills to take these measurements on their own equipment.

Introducing Michelle to the GMCF community!
|
My name is Michelle Black. I am a Certified Athletic Trainer and Personal Trainer and I will be operating as the new Full Time Personal Trainer at GMCF. I started my career as a High School Athletic Trainer here in Central Vermont. I enjoyed the work, but I had to transition away from that lifestyle once I had children. Since then, I have spent the last 8 years of my career working directly with patients in a chiropractic clinic; creating corrective exercise programs and helping people feel better and get stronger in the process. I have a special interest in functional movement, kettlebells, functional breathing and foot strength.
I am really excited to start working directly with clients to help them become more confident, efficient, productive and independent movers. I like to bring a focus on goal setting, functional movement, finding the hardest thing you can do well and a healthy dose of clinical decision making to my training sessions. I look forward to getting to know everyone and helping as many people as I can. Thanks for welcoming me into your community!
