It has been less than a week since renovations began in the Aquatics area at GMCF, but it is incredible how much has been accomplished so far!
Our first challenge was emptying the pool of water. Hundreds of thousands of gallons of water meant that we could not drain it all at once, or risk overwhelming the water systems. We coordinated with the local water department to ensure that we had safe targets to follow, and spread the draining operations out over four days. Our floor drains didn’t want to cooperate quite as expected, so we went with the straightforward method of pumping it all out with a trash pump. Two trash pumps, in fact, as one of them failed partway through and we had to rent a replacement for a day while the first was repaired. But it all worked out okay and before the end of day four, we were look at an empty pool!
Meanwhile, we have been taking apart the walls surrounding the hot tub in preparation of their resurfacing, and discussing some exciting new possibilities for opening up that particular area even more. Our concrete cutting subcontractors have started work on opening up the floors for our new and improved deck drains, and preparations for pouring a new concrete floor for the new bathroom space are well underway.
So far so good; stay tuned for more updates!
