GMCF members have been having a successful year in triathlon so far, achieving PRs, winning races and accomplishing challenging goals! Here are some highlights from recent results:
Partnered pair Stephen and Hannah Brown both represented well at the Ticonderoga Triathlon Festival, completing the Olympic-distance race with excellent results.
Amy Tomasso competed at IRONMAN 70.3 Western Massachusetts and achieved impressive age group results: first out of the water, and a top-10 finish in 8th place! GMCF Aquatics Director Steve Maas also took on this race, stepping out of the Connecticut River in 13th place in his competitive age group and completing a very successful race overall.
Amy also raced at IRONMAN 5150 Mont-Tremblant and produced another top-10 result, at 9th place in her age group.
Lance Parker went for it at IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant and, despite encountering mechanical difficulties on the bike, arrived in 5th place in his age group, placing 60th out of 1,351 overall.
Coach Donna Smyers topped the list of GMCF athletes competing at the Vermont Sun Triathlon in Salisbury, winning her age group and finishing 26th overall. Doreen Audette was not far behind, placing 2nd in her age group and securing a 33rd overall position. Dot Martin was an age group winner; John Martin also made the podium at 3rd in his age group.
Most recently, a number of athletes competed at GMCF Coach Donna Symers’ Elmore Triathlon series. For some, it was their first triathlon experience; for others, it was a return to a race that is well loved by many triathletes from near and far. Some results highlights in the series so far: Lance Parker has won both of this year’s races to date, setting blistering paces on all legs and dominating the field. Katie Costello completed her very first triathlon, achieving a major goal in her journey by taking on and mastering the challenges she set for herself. Katie Hulbert has been on a mission, steadily improving her times and accomplishing an impressive top-10 overall finish in her second race. Doreen Audette, Mary Nealon, Jessica Thyme, Emma Duffany and Marion Wolz have all had strong showings and demonstrated the tenacity GMCF athletes are known for!
Congratulations to all GMCF athletes in competition this summer, and continued best of luck to you all!
