Osteoporosis is a silent disease that weakens bones over time making them more susceptible to fractures and significantly impacting quality of life. In the United States, 1 in 8 adults over age 50 has osteoporosis.

Join an interdisciplinary panel of CVMC and GMCF practitioners as they discuss bone health and factors that contribute to osteopenia and osteoporosis. You will leave with information on treatment of osteoporosis, nutrition, exercise, fall prevention, and more.

Michelle Black LAT, ATC, GMCF Personal Trainer
Michelle is a Certified Athletic Trainer and Personal Trainer at Green Mountain Community Fitness. Michelle has divided the last 20 years of her career as an Athletic Trainer in both the high school setting working with student athletes, and in the clinic setting working directly with patients of all ages with a variety of orthopedic pathologies. As a Personal Trainer at GMCF, this background has been shown to be priceless while working closely with clients to reach their strength and fitness goals. Michelle is a native Vermonter and currently lives in Waterbury with her husband and two teenage children.

Kerry McCarthy, PT, DPT, GMCF Physical Therapist
Since 2009 Kerry has worked in her native Central Vermont as a Doctor of Physical Therapy helping recreational athletes, high school and college athletes, military personnel, and the broader community overcome the pain, frustration, and fears that are often associated with physical injuries. As an athlete herself, she has personal experience with injury, surgery and all the emotional states that accompany the temporary loss of one’s ability to participate in the activities that define them. Kerry is skilled at helping her patients adopt a mindset of resilience when recovering from injury, helping them take control of their recovery. Kerry lives in Berlin with her family.

Cady Hart-Petterssen, MS, GMCF Executive Director
Cady Hart-Petterssen is a dedicated fitness professional with a lifelong passion for athletics, coaching, and community wellness. As the Executive Director of Green Mountain Community Fitness, Cady oversees a 15,000-square-foot facility serving Central Vermont with aquatics, group fitness, indoor pickleball, functional training, studio spaces, physical therapy, and more. GMCF is a cornerstone for inclusive health, wellness, and connection across the region. Cady began her career managing corporate wellness programs with a focus on accessible and diverse fitness offerings. Her background as an athlete, yoga instructor, and group fitness professional has made her a trusted leader in functional strength and conditioning. She has played a key role in developing many of GMCF’s training programs, including the introduction of a highly successful community rowing program and, most recently, an initiative supporting women through the transition of menopause. Cady lives in Plainfield with her family.
