One of GMCF’s most popular and unique features is undoubtedly the pool! Whether you enjoy swimming for exercise, play, or relaxation, it serves as a gathering place where individuals of all ages can come together. However, the aquatics area can also get quite busy, particularly during peak hours. To promote a positive and enjoyable experience for all users, here are some essential reminders regarding pool etiquette.
- Be Mindful of the Pool Schedule: We have a variety of scheduled activities in the pool, including swim lessons, aqua aerobics, swim coaching, swim clubs, physical therapy sessions, open swim and private reservations. It’s helpful for everyone if you check the posted schedules before your visit. This way, you can ensure that you’re using the pool at a time that is appropriate for your intended activity, whether that’s lap swimming/fitness or recreational play. Not only does this help you plan your visit more effectively, but it also ensures that everyone can participate in their desired activities without feeling crowded.

- Follow Posted Guidelines: The posted rules related to safety, hygiene, and behavior in the aquatics area are there for a reason. They are designed to protect the health and safety of all members and make the swimming experience enjoyable. Simple actions, such as showering before entering the pool, using appropriate swim attire, and not running on the deck, contribute significantly to a safe environment. Electronics such as cell phones are prohibited for the safety of all swimmers, particularly minors. Please leave your phones in the locker room. Additionally, please make sure to respect any designated areas within the pool, such as shallow and deep ends, and be aware of any rules regarding equipment use. Signs are also posted on deck to inform you what areas are accessible for what purposes, including signs that may be placed temporarily during certain activities.
- Be Respectful of Others’ Space and Swim Pace: In a shared swimming area, it’s vital to be mindful of other swimmers. If swimming laps, follow our guidelines for shared lane use, and allow faster swimmers to pass at the wall if needed. When in recreational areas, maintain a comfortable distance from others, and be considerate of those who may be enjoying the water at a different pace or intensity than you. Taking turns, sharing lanes, or simply being aware of your surroundings can go a long way toward ensuring that everyone is able to enjoy the water without feeling crowded or uncomfortable.
- Encourage a Positive Atmosphere: Attitudes matter, especially in shared spaces! Encouraging a friendly and positive atmosphere can significantly enhance everyone’s experience. A simple smile or nod can go a long way. Additionally, if you see someone who seems uncertain or in need of advice, don’t hesitate to offer your assistance. Engaging in friendly conversation or camaraderie with fellow pool-goers can transform a simple swim into a delightful community interaction! Of course, our staff is always ready to help when needed as well — please ask when you need information!
- Be Mindful of Noise Levels: While laughter and conversation are a natural part of any gathering, keeping noise levels in check ensures that everyone can enjoy their time in the pool, whether they’re there to socialize, swim laps, or simply relax.
By adhering to these guidelines and fostering a spirit of cooperation, we can help make our pool a safe, enjoyable, and welcoming space for everyone. As with any shared environment, a little consideration goes a long way in making sure that it continues to be a place where we can all thrive together!
