GMCF Athlete Part of Champion USPSA Team

On June 28, 2026, the Vermont Chargers were crowned champions of the 2026 USPSA Founders Cup after defeating the Rose City Renegades 2-0 in the championship match, capping off a dominant tournament performance and earning promotion to next season’s Presidents Cup. GMCF member & athlete Zak Schmoll was part of the team.
The Chargers overcame an early surge from the Renegades before settling into their game and taking control of the match. Midway through the first half, Mathieu Desroches delivered a precise set piece across the goal area to Seth Boulanger, who scored to give Vermont a 1-0 lead.
Rose City continued to create scoring opportunities throughout the match, but the Chargers’ defense consistently rose to the challenge. In the second half, Desroches extended the lead to 2-0 by battling through heavy defensive pressure to score what proved to be the final goal. Vermont maintained its defensive discipline through the final whistle to secure the title.

The championship concluded an outstanding tournament for the Chargers, who finished with a 6-1 record while outscoring opponents 27-3. Each player who competed for Vermont during the tournament scored at least one goal, underscoring the team’s balanced offensive attack.
In addition to the team championship, several Chargers earned individual honors for their exceptional performances.
Desroches received the Golden Guard Award after leading the Founders Cup division with 13 goals and 11 assists. His 24 total points were the highest of any player across all divisions of the tournament.
Boulanger was named the Founders Cup Division Most Valuable Player after recording 10 goals and six assists while also excelling defensively in his roles as designated goaltender and center. His all-around performance helped anchor the Chargers on both ends of the court throughout the tournament.
Together, Desroches and Boulanger formed one of the tournament’s most productive duos, leading Vermont to both a championship and promotion to the Presidents Cup for the 2027 season.
The Vermont Chargers’ championship run reflects the team’s dedication, skill, and commitment to excellence while showcasing the growing strength of power soccer in Vermont and the surrounding region.
